In a previous paper* Fr. Sierp and myself have dealt with some of the numerous hot springs in the Bombay Presidency. The favourable reception which that paper has received relieves me of the necessity of dwelling once more on the importance of the subject. The methods used in the present paper in measuring the radio-activity of the water and the gases are the same as in the former investigations. As it is of some importance to know whether there are radio-active salts in solution in the water, care has been taken to ascertain this where it was deemed desirable. For this purpose a certain amount of water was deprived of its radio-activity by boiling and kept for some months in an hermetically closed bottle. If the water recovers some radio-activity we know for certain that it contains not only emanation but also ladio-active salts.
